Haldi and Mehendi functions are where the real, raw emotions come out. I capture the laughter, the mess, and the quiet moments between rituals so you can relive the start of your celebration.

A fun and playful Haldi ceremony. I captured the moment right as the bride playfully puts haldi on the groom, showing the fun-loving nature of their relationship.

A tender moment during the Haldi ceremony. The groom gently applies haldi to his bride, a gesture full of love and tradition.

A collage showing both the bride and groom during their individual Haldi ceremonies, a beautiful tradition of being blessed by family.

The whole family joins in for a flower shower during the Haldi. This shot is all about the collective joy and celebration of the community.

The groom's Haldi ceremony, full of laughter as his friends and brothers lift him up in celebration. It's a moment of pure fun and camaraderie.

The groom searching for his name in the bride's mehendi. This is a classic, sweet tradition that I love to capture in a natural, candid way.

A beautiful shot of the couple during their Mehendi ceremony, sharing a quiet moment under a stunning floral arch.

About this collection

When I shoot Haldi and Mehendi, I avoid telling you to look at the lens. The best photos happen when you are actually busy with the turmeric, laughing with your cousins, or sharing a look with your partner. I stand back with a long lens to catch the real reaction, not a staged pose.

The Haldi and Mehendi are often the most intimate chapters of a wedding story. Unlike the main ceremony, which follows a structured flow, these pre-wedding rituals are unpredictable. This is where you see the true dynamics of a family—the chaos of friends smearing turmeric, the quiet focus during Mehendi application, and the genuine joy in the air.

I have spent 30 years behind the camera, and I have learned that the key to these photos is movement. Whether it is a destination event at a venue like Red Carpet Continental in Bhimtal or a backyard function in Delhi, my approach stays the same: I want to capture the colors and the connection.

During Mehendi, I focus on the details—the intricate designs, the way the bride reacts to a joke from her friends, or that classic, sweet moment when the groom searches for his name on her palms. For Haldi, I am looking for the energy. I want to see the flower shower, the splashes of color, and the laughter that only happens when everyone is comfortable.

My team and I work to keep our footprint small. We use full-frame mirrorless cameras that allow us to shoot silently, so we do not interrupt the flow of your ritual. You get to enjoy your family and your celebration; I will be there to make sure you have the evidence of that happiness to look back on.

After three decades with my camera, I have learned that the best shots are never posed. I am Raj, and I spend my time at weddings finding those small, honest moments—like a secret smile during the Mehendi or the sheer joy of a flower shower—that truly make your story yours.
