About this collection
You won’t find me standing behind a tripod from across the room. Whether it is keeping a newborn cozy with white noise or getting down on the floor to earn a toddler’s trust, my approach relies on being at eye-level with the little ones, constantly adjusting props and soothing them to get those genuine, relaxed expressions.
Newborn and baby photography is 10 percent about the camera and 90 percent about patience. When parents walk into my M3M Golf Estate studio in Gurugram, they often expect a high-pressure photoshoot, but the reality is quite the opposite. We move at the pace of the baby. If a newborn needs to feed, we pause. If a toddler is having a shy moment, we play.
My process is defined by safety and comfort. For newborns, that means keeping the studio temperature controlled, using specialized beanbags for safe posing, and ensuring every swaddle is secure. I personally handle the handling and posing, because I know that a calm, sleepy baby is the only way to get those classic, peaceful portraits.
For the older ones, particularly during sitter sessions or cake smashes, it is about engagement. I work without the barrier of a heavy lens in their faces, often working barefoot on the floor to be on their level. We use soft, baby-safe props like mohair wraps, custom backdrops, and interactive toys to create a natural environment where smiles happen because the child is having fun, not because they are being told to perform.
Every session is a team effort, even when it is just me. I coordinate with parents on styling and wardrobe beforehand, and during the shoot, we rely on snacks, silly faces, and familiar songs to navigate those unpredictable toddler moods. The images you see in my gallery are the result of these quiet, sometimes messy, and always collaborative hours spent in the studio.
Ila Sagar
I am Ila. After nine years of chasing light and baby giggles, I have learned that the best photos aren't staged. I spend my days on the floor of my studio, probably making silly noises to get a genuine smile, because that is where the real moments happen.
