About Artistic Kurtas & Dresses
You will notice that my kurtas and dresses are designed with a relaxed, anti-fit silhouette. They are not meant to hug your body in restrictive ways; instead, they are fluid and breathable. And yes, they all feature functional pockets because I believe fashion should serve your daily needs without sacrificing style.
My Approach to Design
I believe fashion should adapt to you, not the other way around. My artistic kurtas and dresses are born from a desire to escape the stiff, uncomfortable clothing that dominated my own wardrobe for years. Every piece in this collection is a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern, easy-to-wear cuts.
The Art of the Print
Many of the prints you see here started as paintings in my studio. I take elements from art—a mood, a color palette, or a sketch—and turn them into unique, wearable prints. Whether it is a bold abstract design on crepe or a delicate floral motif on cotton silk, these prints tell a story that you won't find in mass-produced clothing.
Why Fabric Matters
In our humid climate, fabric choice is everything. I work primarily with:
- Summer Silk & Habutai Silk: These provide a luxury feel while remaining cool against the skin.
- Pure Crepe: Known for its wonderful drape and ability to move when you walk.
- Breathable Cotton & Linen: Essential for everyday comfort and ease.
Styling and Fit
These pieces are incredibly versatile. You can pair my kurtas with your favorite jeans, style a maxi dress with sneakers for a casual brunch, or layer them for a more formal occasion. Most of these designs follow a relaxed or anti-fit structure, which makes finding your size much simpler. If you are ever unsure about how a piece will fit your specific frame, I am always happy to help you with sizing over a quick message.
Wasabi
I am Shilpa, and I started Wasabi because I was tired of clothes that forced me to squeeze in just to look 'correct.' My designs are for real bodies, focusing on fluid shapes that let you move, work, or lounge with ease.
