Don't assume a makeover is just about buying new plants. Most of the time, your existing plants are just hungry or root-bound. I start by checking what you already have, removing dead roots, cleaning the pots, and replacing the soil with my own organic 4-part mix. It is about reviving what you have before we add anything new.
Gardening in Mumbai is not easy. Between the heavy monsoon and the harsh heat, plants need more than just watering to survive. My makeover process starts with a full health assessment. I look at your light conditions, check the soil drainage, and identify if your 'sad' plants are actually suffering from pests or just bad potting soil.
My Transformation Process
- Deep Cleaning & Pruning: For balconies and terraces, I start with structural pruning. Removing dead stems and yellow leaves is crucial for new growth. I also pressure-wash pots and floors to keep the area clean.
- Root Surgery: If your plants haven't grown in months, they are likely root-bound. I carefully extract them, trim the coiled roots, and repot them in fresh, nutrient-rich soil. This gives the roots space to breathe again.
- Vertical Garden Refresh: If your vertical green wall is looking sparse, I replace the dead or damaged plants and re-align the irrigation system. I focus on hardy, local varieties that can actually withstand our climate.
