Leave the city network behind. This 2-night road trip takes you to the crystal-blue shores of Chandratal at 14,000 feet, where the only thing on your schedule is the mountain breeze.

This video captures the essence of my Chandratal road trip. It's more than just a drive; it's an experience. From hanging out the window of the Tempo Traveller to dancing by the lake, this is a 2N/3D adventure you won't find anywhere else on Earth.

"Let's go where the wifi is weak!" A traveler celebrating the freedom and disconnect that comes with being at a place as remote and beautiful as Chandratal Lake.

About Chandratal: The Moon Lake Escape

The journey to Chandratal isn't for the faint of heart. We don’t just drive you there; we manage the acclimation process carefully because the altitude jump from Manali is sharp. We use sturdy vehicles equipped for these rough, high-altitude roads, and we camp at a designated site 2km from the lake, as camping right on the bank is restricted to protect the fragile ecosystem. Expect chilly nights and basic, honest comfort—think thick sleeping bags and shared washrooms, not hotels. This is a trip for those who value the mountain vibe over five-star amenities.

Why Chandratal? It’s not just a lake; it’s a high-altitude reset button. When we cross the Atal Tunnel from Manali, the landscape shifts into a raw, lunar-like expanse. The air gets thin, the winds get cold, and suddenly, your city problems feel light years away.

The Logistics

We prioritize your safety. Since this is a high-altitude environment, our trip captains carry oxygen cylinders and first aid kits. You’ll be traveling in a reliable Tempo Traveller or SUV, usually shared with a small group of fellow travelers who are looking for the same unplugged experience. We handle the inner-line permits so you don't have to worry about the paperwork.

Life on the Trail

This isn’t a luxury resort tour. We stay in Alpine tents or Swiss camps. Electricity is non-existent at the campsite, and mobile networks go silent long before we reach the lake. Meals are simple, hot vegetarian fare—dal, rice, and roti—served buffet style. It’s the kind of food that tastes better when you’re freezing at 14,000 feet.

The "Moon Lake" Experience

Whether you’re coming from the Hampta Pass trek or taking our direct road trip circuit, arriving at the turquoise waters is a surreal experience. We plan our arrival to give you ample time for photography, a quiet walk, or just sitting by the shore. The nights are for stargazing, and if you’re lucky, you might spot the Milky Way clearly. Bring warm layers, sturdy shoes, and an open mind. This is about real mountain time, not sightseeing.
