Music Video Choreography and Dance Direction
Bringing stories to life with movement that blends classical Kathak roots and modern fusion styles. Whether it is for a music video, an ad, or a film project, I design choreography that hits the right emotional notes for the camera.
Scenes from the official music video for 'Koyaliya'. My choreography here was a fusion of styles, designed to be expressive and free-flowing to match the beautiful outdoor setting and the song's soulful vibe.
The official poster for the classical fusion track 'Koyaliya'. I was thrilled to be the featured dancer and choreographer for this project, working alongside a talented team of musicians and artists.
This was the promotional video we released to announce the audio for 'Koyaliya'. It gives a sneak peek into the mood of the song and my expressive dance performance.
A teaser for an upcoming fusion classical song I'm working on. This project explores a more intense, modern, and emotional theme through dance.
About Music Video Choreography
When I design a routine for a music video, I do not just focus on the hook steps. I coordinate with your DOP to block the movement based on the frame, ensuring the camera catches the nuance rather than just the motion. I also handle the on-set practicalities, like checking how your talent's outfit moves during a spin, so you get the shot you want without the dancer worrying about wardrobe mishaps.
Bringing a vision to life on camera takes more than just good choreography. It takes a balance of technical blocking and pure expression. My process starts by understanding the soul of the track—whether it is a high-energy pop number or a slow, emotive fusion piece. Once we nail the mood, I build the movement around it.
My Approach to Music Video Movement
- Camera-First Choreography: There is no point in doing complex footwork if the camera cannot capture the emotion. I look at angles, lighting, and the setting to ensure the dance complements the visuals.
- Signature Hook Steps: Every video needs that one moment that sticks in the viewer's head. I create signature moves that are visually arresting but still accessible for the talent performing them.
- On-Set Coaching: I am there on the day of the shoot to coach your actors on posture, angles, and facial expressions (Abhinaya). If you have non-dancers on set, I focus on making them look confident and natural, rather than trying to force professional technique.
- Practical Styling: I provide verbal advice on outfits that complement your choreography. If your lead is wearing a heavy lehenga or a saree, I teach them how to handle the fabric during spins and turns so it looks graceful on screen.
My foundation is in Kathak, but I love the Mumbai masala of Bollywood and folk fusion. If you look at my work on tracks like 'Koyaliya,' you will see how we blended outdoor aesthetics with free-flowing, emotive movement. If you are producing a music video in Mumbai and need someone who understands both the rhythm and the reality of a film set, let’s connect.
