Behind the Seams: My Handmade Process at Dirty Paws
It’s just me, my sewing machine, and a pup sleeping under the table. Here is a peek at how I turn simple fabric into gear for your furry best friend.
I run a pet brand with a pet under my desk. She's my muse and my constant reminder to build with love and pause for cuddles.
Romanticizing my small business. This isn't just work, it's a quiet love story between me, my sewing machine, and my dreams.
Every order supports not just my small business, but also my dream and the paws who inspired it all. Thank you for being part of this journey.
When you support a small business, you support a dream. This video shows a glimpse of the hard work and the happy moments that come with it.
A promise unspoken. This video from my Valentine's campaign celebrates the eternal promise between a pet parent and their furry friend.
About Behind the Seams: How It's Made
Every product here starts with a tail wag. I stitch every collar, harness, and bandana by hand, usually with my pup snoozing under the sewing table. If I wouldn't use it for her, I won't send it to you. You’re not just buying an accessory; you’re supporting a small, handmade dream.
How it starts
Everything begins in my home studio. When you order, I’m not pulling a box from a shelf; I’m picking out fabrics—usually cotton or cotton-blends—and cutting them to size. Whether it’s a donut print bandana or a sturdy tweed collar, each piece passes a strict test: would my own dog be comfortable in this? If the answer is no, it doesn’t get made.
The anatomy of my gear
I don’t believe in boring, uncomfortable gear. That’s why I use a heavy-duty nylon webbing core for all collars and leashes. It gives you the tensile strength you need for a strong puller, while the outer fabric keeps it looking cute. I source metal hardware (including those rose-gold buckles you love) to ensure durability that lasts through muddy park runs and daily walks.
A bit of 'jugaad' and a lot of heart
I’m a one-woman team. Sometimes that means a longer wait time, and it definitely means I’m always learning. For my street dog project, 'Illuminate India', I’ve refined the design of my reflective collars to be cost-effective at ₹35, ensuring I can help as many street souls as possible stay visible at night. It’s been wild seeing safety turn into a movement—when I got an order for 143 collars, I knew I was onto something that mattered.
Custom touches
Because I sew everything myself, I can add those personal details that big brands can't. Want your pet’s name embroidered on a collar? Or a matching scrunchie for you? Just let me know. Every piece is a love letter between me, my sewing machine, and your pet.
