Storytelling & Cultural Celebrations for Kids
I bring festivals and stories to life with interactive sessions that spark curiosity, keeping kids engaged through hands-on play and cultural discovery.
There's nothing like a good story. Here I am doing a read-aloud of the wonderful book 'Kozhukatta' for World Read Aloud Day, sharing a funny and culturally rich story with the children.
Celebrating Krishna Janmashtami with my kids. We made sweet treats for baby Krishna and ended the night by reading stories about his birth, a lovely way to pass on family traditions.
Sharing the story of Ganesha through the beautifully illustrated "Amma, Tell Me About Ganesha!" book. Reading together is a wonderful way to introduce children to the stories behind our festivals.
I love children's books that share stories about different cultures. This book, 'Kozhukatta', inspired a real-life food adventure for us in Kerala to taste the delicious snack it's named after.
The cover of 'Kozhukatta', a charmingly illustrated book that tells a lesser-known story with humor and warmth, making it a favorite in our home.
An illustration from the book showing a variety of Indian snacks. Reading books like this often sparks curiosity in children about different foods and cultures.
This page from 'Kozhukatta' beautifully illustrates the discovery of new and exciting foods, a theme that resonates with curious young readers.
About this collection
I don’t just read books; I turn every session into a multisensory experience. Whether we are acting out a story with puppets, exploring the history behind a festival, or making a craft, I ensure every child stays engaged, curious, and excited to participate.
My approach to storytelling is rooted in play. I believe that children learn best when they are active participants, not just listeners. When we talk about festivals like Janmashtami or Ganesha Chaturthi, we go beyond just the rituals. We read books that make these traditions relatable, we use puppets to act out the fun bits, and we tie it all together with a hands-on activity that the kids can take home.
Why focus on cultural storytelling?
It gives kids a sense of belonging and helps them ask questions. Many parents tell me they struggle to explain the 'why' behind our festivals. My sessions make it easy. We use storytelling to bridge the gap between tradition and modern curiosity.
What to expect in a session:
- Interactive Narrative: I use voice modulation and puppets to keep attention locked on the story.
- Cultural Connection: We discuss the themes—like sharing, kindness, or gratitude—that are woven into our stories.
- Sensory Play: We follow up every story with a related activity, like painting, simple science experiments, or craft-making.
Whether it’s a birthday party in your home or a dedicated workshop in your clubhouse, I tailor the flow to the age group. The goal is to spark that 'aha' moment when a child connects a story to the world around them. It’s not about perfection; it’s about making sure every munchkin has a brilliant time while learning something new.

I'm Deepika, and for me, it's all about finding the magic in the everyday. I created these sessions because I love seeing kids discover new stories and traditions through play, not just lectures.
