About Elegant Storage: Consoles, Cabinets & Bar Units
When I build a console or bar unit, I focus on the mix of materials. Whether it’s a fluted-door finish paired with a natural marble top or brass inlays catching the light, I select combinations that hold up to daily use. You get sturdy cabinetry that stays smooth and functional for years, rather than just a decorative piece.
Storage is not just about hiding clutter. It is about making sure your home flows. When you visit my Mayapuri workshop, we look at the specific wall or corner you want to fill. I often use fluted panels—that ribbed texture on many of my consoles—because it adds depth without overwhelming a space.
I typically use high-gloss Duco paint for soft, modern colors, or rich veneers if you prefer warmth. The tops are almost always stone, such as Onyx or Italian marble, because that weight feels grounded and high-end. If we are building a bar unit, I focus on the internal layout: custom shelving for your glassware, proper spacing for different bottle heights, and integrated LED lighting so you can find what you need.
Before we start, we decide on the purpose. Is this a TV unit that needs cable management and ventilation for your electronics? Or is it a statement sideboard for your entryway? I design the internals accordingly. Everything is built with commercial-grade plywood and premium hardware, so drawers slide silently and hinges do not sag. It is about creating something that looks like it was always meant to be in your home, not just another box of wood.
