From Practice to Performance: Sangeet Choreography in Mumbai
Ever wonder how those seamless, filmy performances actually come together? This is the journey from our first practice session in South Bombay to the main stage magic.
Sangeet practices are sometimes more fun than the wedding itself, especially when I'm your instructor. This is a glimpse into one of my energetic offline rehearsal sessions in Mumbai.
Who said Indian sangeets can't have a little spice? This is from a rehearsal for a unique chair choreography I created for a Gujarati wedding. We love trying bold and different concepts.
A behind-the-scenes look at a bridesmaids' group dance rehearsal for 'Gulabi Sadi'. My in-person sessions are all about breaking down the steps and having fun while we practice.
We also choreograph for other events like birthdays. This video shows the rehearsal and final performance for a client's birthday party, where we taught a fun group dance to 'Lagdi Hai Thai'.
This video shows the rehearsal and final performance of a beautiful Ganesh Vandana that opened a sangeet. It's amazing to see the practice pay off on stage.
This is the result of practicing just one day before the sangeet. This rehearsal-to-performance video shows how a dedicated group can pull off an amazing dance like 'UP Wala Thumka' in a short time.
From a casual rehearsal to a full-blown Bollywood movie performance. This video shows the bride and her 20 bridesmaids practicing and then performing an epic mashup from the movie 'Taal'.
This is a classic sangeet moment. Everyone is on stage, and they're all looking to me for the next step. I'm always there, front and center, to prompt and guide you through the entire performance.
About From Rehearsal to Reality
The biggest secret behind a flawless performance is not hours of grueling practice, but simple, muscle-memory-friendly choreography. Whether we are meeting at my studio in South Bombay or connecting over Zoom, my goal is to get you comfortable with the steps so you can actually enjoy your own sangeet instead of worrying about the next move.
Whether you are a seasoned dancer or someone who thinks they have two left feet, my rehearsal process is designed to turn wedding nerves into pure confidence. I start by breaking down complex tracks into manageable steps. For local clients, I host in-person sessions at my Churchgate studio, where we focus on stage presence and space utilization. For my NRI and out-of-town couples, my hybrid model uses custom-edited tutorial videos and live Zoom sync sessions to ensure you are stage-ready, no matter the time zone.
We do not just learn steps, we work on stage blocking. This means figuring out where to stand, when to smile, and how to transition without chaos. For those with heavy bridal outfits, we include specific practice sessions to manage lehengas and can-cans so you are not tripping mid-performance. I also provide audio mixing to ensure your mashups have smooth, professional transitions.
Ultimately, the rehearsals are where the memories happen. It is less about being a pro and more about having fun with your squad. I am there to prompt you on stage if you forget, but by the time the sangeet arrives, you will be too busy owning the spotlight to even look for me. Let’s make your wedding dance look like a scene straight out of a blockbuster.
