My Journey: From PhD Research to the DJ Decks
I lead two lives: one as a scientist, the other as a DJ. It is a balancing act of precision and passion, and I have found that both worlds teach me how to connect with people in unique ways.
This 'Queen of Mashups' award is more than just a trophy; it's motivation. It represents the struggle and dedication it takes to pursue an unconventional career like DJing, especially coming from a place where it's not always understood.
Taking my culture to the world. Here I am wearing a traditional Tripuri Risa in Oman, blending my heritage with my international work. It's important for me to represent where I come from, no matter where I am.
A teaser for my appearance on the talk show 'Chit Chat with Sourabhee'. I was thrilled to share my story and have some fun with Indian Idol winner Sourabhee Debbarma and Mr. Tourism World India Mithun Debbarma.
Even while living abroad and playing for international crowds, I never forget my roots. This is me taking a moment to chill and listen to Kokborok music, a genre from my home state of Tripura, while looking out at the mountains of Oman.
A collage of fun moments from the 'Chit Chat with Sourabhee' talk show. It was a great platform to talk about my journey as both a scientist and a DJ.
A behind the scenes look at one of the fun games we played on the talk show.
More moments from my interview, capturing the laughter and conversation. Sharing my experiences is a way to hopefully inspire others to chase their own dreams.
About My Journey: Chasing Dreams
People often ask how I balance medical research with DJing. Both worlds demand strict discipline, whether I am analyzing public health data or layering a 90s Bollywood track with a psy-trance beat. I do not just hit play. I listen to the room and shift the energy based on what the crowd needs in that exact moment.
The Duality of Sound and Science
My path is not the traditional route. Growing up in Tripura, DJing was rarely considered a profession, which made my early days challenging. I chose to lean into that challenge rather than step away from it. By day, I am a PhD scientist. This requires analytical thinking and rigorous attention to detail. By night, I bring that same analytical mind to the decks. I deconstruct music to understand how specific frequencies and rhythms affect an audience.
Why My Sets Feel Different
This is why many refer to me as the Queen of Mashups. I enjoy blending unexpected sounds, like regional Kokborok rap with modern hip-hop, to keep the dance floor unpredictable. My clients often tell me they appreciate this fresh perspective. When I arrive at your venue, I have already done the prep work to understand the vibe you want, from sunset lounge grooves in locations like Oman or the Maldives to high-octane dance floor sets in India.
My Philosophy
I believe in living true to yourself. When you hire me, you are not just getting a person who plays songs. You are getting someone who understands the importance of narrative and atmosphere. Whether it is an intimate lounge setting or a large festival, my goal is to create a soundtrack that feels as real and authentic as my own journey.
