Voices from Our Community: Real Stories of Animal Rescue in Bangalore
Behind every rescue is a network of dedicated caregivers. Meet the people partnering with us to make Bangalore a safer place for animals, one community at a time.
"CUPA thinks like us." Hearing this from Ms. Snigdha, a dedicated rescuer we've worked with since 2022, means everything. Our work is only possible because of the trust and partnership we build with community caregivers who are on the ground, helping animals every single day.
Ms. Mookambika has been a rescuer for over a decade and has brought more than 500 animals to us for neutering and treatment. Her dedication is an inspiration, and we are proud to have supported her vital work since 2007.
Our Cat Projects Coordinator, Ms. Gargi, talks about the challenges of explaining the benefits of neutering to the public. Taking full responsibility for a community animal means everything from feeding to sterilization, and we work hard to spread this awareness.
About Voices from Our Community
Our work relies on caregivers like Snigdha and Mookambika, who go beyond just feeding to ensure long-term health. If you are a community rescuer, remember that true animal welfare includes sterilization, not just daily care. We are here to support you with the resources to make this sustainable for the animals in your locality.
Beyond Feeding: Taking Full Ownership
Rescuing an animal is more than an act of kindness. It is a responsibility that requires consistency and medical oversight. As our Cat Projects Coordinator Gargi notes, many people believe sterilization is 'unnatural' or unnecessary, but the reality on the streets is harsh. For community cats and dogs, population control is the only humane way to reduce suffering, hunger, and territorial fighting.
Partnering with CUPA
We do not work in isolation. Our strength lies in our partnerships with local feeders and community caregivers across Bangalore.
- For Cat Caregivers: We run a city-wide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. We provide the surgical expertise, recovery space, and rabies vaccinations. You provide the logistical support—identifying the animals and ensuring they are released back into their safe, familiar territories.
- For Dog Rescuers: Our 5-day Animal Birth Control (ABC) program for areas outside BBMP limits covers everything from humane trapping to post-op recovery with self-dissolving sutures.
Sab Saath Milke (All Together)
Whether you have rescued 500 animals like Mookambika or are just starting your journey as a neighborhood feeder, you have a place with us. We need more voices to advocate for 'science, not fear.' If you are ready to move from passive concern to active protection, reach out. We provide the medical infrastructure, and you provide the local expertise. Together, we can ensure every animal gets the second chance they deserve.
