The Reality of the Streets: Why Sterilization Matters
We share these images not to shock you, but because the cycle of suffering on Bangalore streets must stop. Sterilization is the only proven, humane way to break this cycle.
This is the reality we fight against every day. Helpless, homeless kittens getting hit by vehicles is a direct result of uncontrolled breeding. This is cruel, and neutering is the only way to prevent it.
Seeing cats left to starve, ending up as mangled skeletons, is cruel. We work to create a world where no animal has to suffer like this. Sterilization reduces the number of animals competing for scarce resources.
Cats suffering from infections, cancers, and fight-related injuries is cruel. Many of these issues, like tumors and wounds from territorial fights, are directly linked to them not being neutered.
Cats stuck in harsh rains, cold, and heat without food or shelter is cruel. By reducing the number of homeless animals, we reduce the number of individuals who have to endure these conditions.
If you truly care, stop the cycle. This image of a mother dog, likely killed on the road, is a tragic reminder of the dangers street animals face. Getting the mother neutered after her litter is weaned is the only way to prevent more homeless babies.
What if the cat crying under your window at night isn't a nuisance? What if it's a cry for help, a sign of hunger, or pain from a fight? Changing our perception is the first step towards compassion and finding a real solution like TNR.
About this collection
When you see a cat or dog suffering, the most compassionate action is not a temporary rescue, but permanent sterilization. Our Trap-Neuter-Return program effectively prevents the next generation of homeless litters, ensuring fewer animals end up in the difficult, life-threatening situations shown in our gallery.
For over three decades, we have seen firsthand that simply removing animals from the street does not solve the problem. The only scientific, humane, and sustainable method for managing street animal populations is the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. By sterilizing community animals, we eliminate the root cause of countless litters born into sickness, hunger, and danger.
Why Sterilization is Our Primary Mission
Every unsterilized animal on the street contributes to a cycle of overpopulation that leads to starvation and territorial fighting. When a female dog or cat is spayed, she is no longer forced to endure the physical toll of repeated pregnancies. When a male is neutered, territorial aggression drops significantly, creating a calmer environment for both the animals and the people in the neighborhood.
Our Process: From Rescue to Return
We operate strictly according to WHO and national guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of every animal:
- For Cats (TNR): We utilize a Trap-Neuter-Return method. Community caregivers bring cats over five months old to our Jayanagar center. We perform the surgery, monitor them during a 24-48 hour recovery period, and ensure they are ear-tipped before they are returned to their original territory. This ensures the cat remains with its known resources and caregivers.
- For Dogs (5-Day Program): We operate outside BBMP limits, providing a comprehensive 5-day cycle. This includes catching, surgery under general anesthesia, vaccination, and post-op care. We use self-dissolving stitches and ensure the dog is recovered and healthy before release.
How You Can Help
This work is not done alone. We rely on community feeders and caregivers to act as the bridge between the streets and our centers. If you are feeding a colony or a street dog in your area, please do not wait for a crisis to occur. Contact us to schedule a sterilization appointment. You are the key to making Bangalore a kinder place.
