Humane Animal Birth Control & Sterilization
We have spent 34 years proving that science, not fear, is the only way to manage street animal populations. Explore our humane, scientific approach to community animal care in Bangalore.
This is our 5-day humane street dog sterilization program in action. We follow a strict, scientific process that includes safe capture, expert surgery by our veterinary team, post-operative care, rabies vaccination, and a guaranteed return to their home territory. This is how we create healthier, safer communities for both people and animals.
It takes a village. This is the story of how we partnered with kind-hearted community caregivers in a Bangalore slum to sterilize their beloved community cats. Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program is a collaborative effort, empowering animal lovers to give the cats in their area a healthier, happier future.
The choice is clear: a happy, healthy dog living peacefully in its community, or a sad, frightened dog behind bars. We advocate for the only humane and scientific solution: Sterilize, Vaccinate, Return. This approach is backed by law and is the most effective way to manage street animal populations and prevent rabies.
Some people believe neutering is cruel, but the reality is the opposite. Leaving community dogs to face disease, injury, and the stress of endless breeding cycles is cruel. Our process is a humane, one-time surgical procedure that provides a lifetime of health benefits and prevents countless puppies from being born into suffering.
This is what "not cruel" looks like. These community cats are resting safely after their neutering surgery. By preventing overpopulation, we stop the cycle of homelessness, disease, and starvation. This simple act is one of the kindest things we can do for them.
Our work is about creating real, measurable change. In May alone, we spayed 335 community dogs, preventing thousands of future births on the streets. Each surgery means less roaming, less aggression, a lower risk of cancer, and a better quality of life for that animal.
"CUPA thinks like us." Hearing this from Ms. Snigdha, a dedicated rescuer we've worked with since 2022, means everything. Our work is only possible because of the trust and partnership we build with community caregivers who are on the ground, helping animals every single day.
About this collection
When you bring an animal for our sterilization program, it is never just about surgery. Whether it is our Trap-Neuter-Return protocol for community cats or our 5-day ABC program for dogs, we manage the entire cycle—from humane, stress-free capture to expert veterinary surgery and the final, vital step of returning the animal exactly where they belong. We do not just perform a procedure; we ensure the animal returns home safer, healthier, and stabilized.
Why We Champion Animal Birth Control (ABC)
Population control is the only humane way to reduce human-animal conflict on our streets. By sterilizing and vaccinating community dogs and cats, we effectively stop the cycle of uncontrolled breeding, reduce territorial aggression, and prevent the spread of rabies. This isn't just our opinion; it is a scientifically proven method backed by the WHO and India's ABC Rules.
Our Core Programs
- Community Dog Sterilization (5-Day Program): We operate outside BBMP limits, providing a comprehensive 5-day stay. This includes admission, veterinary examination, anesthesia-based surgery, post-op recovery, and a mandatory anti-rabies vaccination before returning the dog to their original territory.
- Community Cat Program (TNR): Our Trap-Neuter-Return service is city-wide for cats over 5 months old. We work with caregivers to ensure these cats are trapped safely, spayed or neutered at our specialized facility, and returned to their home environment after a 24-48 hour recovery period.
Partnering with the Community
Our work relies on the frontline efforts of community caregivers and feeders. We don't just see the animals; we see the people who love them. Whether you are an individual feeder or a neighborhood association, our processes are designed to be accessible. We include mandatory ear-tipping (cats) and V-notching (dogs) as legal, visual identifiers of sterilization, ensuring the animals you care for remain protected and recognized as part of the managed population.
