Community Dog Sterilization Program in Bangalore
We manage street dog populations through a scientific, 5-day Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. Our method is safe, humane, and designed to ensure a healthier future for community dogs outside BBMP limits.
This is our 5-day humane street dog sterilization program in action. We follow a strict, scientific process that includes safe capture, expert surgery by our veterinary team, post-operative care, rabies vaccination, and a guaranteed return to their home territory. This is how we create healthier, safer communities for both people and animals.
Our vet explains a major challenge we face: conflicting public opinions. Some people try to stop us from catching dogs, while others demand we don't release them back. We navigate these situations daily, always following the law which mandates that healthy, sterilized dogs must be returned to their territory.
Some people believe neutering is cruel, but the reality is the opposite. Leaving community dogs to face disease, injury, and the stress of endless breeding cycles is cruel. Our process is a humane, one-time surgical procedure that provides a lifetime of health benefits and prevents countless puppies from being born into suffering.
A glimpse into our daily operations at the Spay and Neuter Centre. From the ambulance team carefully loading dogs to our vets performing life-saving surgeries, every step is handled with professionalism and compassion. In June, we sterilized 347 dogs through this systematic process.
Here's a look at our sterilization statistics for June. We brought in 347 dogs, and after assessing their health, we successfully sterilized and vaccinated 334 of them. This data-driven approach helps us track our impact on community animal welfare.
Our work is about creating real, measurable change. In May alone, we spayed 335 community dogs, preventing thousands of future births on the streets. Each surgery means less roaming, less aggression, a lower risk of cancer, and a better quality of life for that animal.
In just one month, with support from the HCL Foundation, we sterilized 219 dogs. This partnership is vital for our ABC program, allowing us to expand our reach and make a significant dent in the street dog population on the outskirts of Bangalore.
About this collection
Our 5-day sterilization program is about more than just surgery. It involves a strict protocol: humane capture, a 12-hour pre-surgery fasting period for anesthesia safety, the procedure itself, and 3-4 days of monitored recovery at our centre. We use self-dissolving stitches to avoid follow-up visits, ensuring every dog is fully fit, vaccinated, and ready to return to their original territory.
Why This Process Matters
Many residents worry when they see dogs being collected, but our 5-day cycle is the standard for humane population control. We follow India's Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, which mandate that all sterilized dogs must be returned to their exact home territory. Removing dogs creates a vacuum that only leads to new, unvaccinated animals moving in.
Health & Disease Prevention
Sterilization is the only proven method to stop the spread of Transmissible Venereal Tumors (TVT), a painful and contagious cancer that spreads through mating. By breaking this cycle, we significantly reduce the spread of disease, as well as territorial aggression, roaming behavior, and unplanned litters that lead to more suffering on the streets.

Our specialized ABC program is designed for community caregivers, feeders, and residents in areas outside Bangalore's BBMP limits. If you are trying to manage the street dog population in your neighbourhood and want to do it the right way, we are here to guide you through the process.
