About Inside the Workshop: Fun, Games & Improvisation
It is not just about memorizing lines or standing on a stage. We start every session with improvisation exercises where kids create scenes on the spot, like resolving a playful argument or acting out a grocery store scene. These games force them to think, react, and project their voice without the pressure of a rigid script, which is often where the real breakthrough in confidence happens.
At Chalo Theatre Studio, we believe that 'masti' (fun) is the most effective way to learn. My team and I are from the National School of Drama (NSD), and we apply that same professional rigor to our workshops, but with a lot more heart and play.
We structure our time to balance energy and focus. We start with physical games to help kids connect with their bodies and burn off excess energy, then move into storytelling where they practice active listening and teamwork. It is common to see a child who walks in quiet and reserved start to lead their own skit by the end of the month.
We avoid the standard 'sit-still-and-listen' format. Instead, we use props, costumes, and music to create a safe space for them to explore different characters and emotions. Whether it is a short session on voice projection or an intense afternoon preparing for a finale play, the goal is always to help them find their own unique voice. We also incorporate basics of Bollywood dance and yoga, ensuring that the development is holistic and keeps them excited to come back every single day. We keep our batches small so that every kid gets personal attention, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and appreciated for their specific talent.
