About Ulavi Caves: Spelunking & Water Fun
This isn't a standard walk in the park. In Ulavi, the adventure is a mix of crawling through narrow limestone cave passages and cooling off in the rapids of the Kali river. You will need to be ready for some physical effort, but I handle the logistics—transport, gear, and guidance—so you can just focus on the climb and the fun of the group. If you are looking for a weekend that balances proper exploring with a relaxed, homely stay, this is it.
The Ulavi Caves trek is one of my favorite routes because it hits that perfect balance between challenging exploration and water-based relaxation. We don't just hike; we dive into the landscape of the Western Ghats.
The Exploration
We spend time navigating the limestone caves, which requires some climbing and crawling through rock formations. It is raw, natural, and requires focus. My job is to guide you through these passages safely, ensuring you get to see the unique rock formations without the stress of navigating the jungle alone.
The Water Fun
Once we are out of the caves, we head to the Kali river. Whether it is white water rafting or just taking a dip in the natural streams, it is the best way to wash off the trail dust.
Why Book With Us
- Everything Handled: From our office in JP Nagar, we take care of the Tempo Traveller or Mini Bus, the local 4x4 jeep transfers, your forest permits, and entry fees. You just need to pack your bag.
- Homely Stay: We avoid luxury resorts in favor of local homestays where you get a proper 'ondhu mane feeling' (homely vibe). Dorm-style stays with hot water and local meals are part of the experience.
- Group Vibe: I have been doing this for 12 years. We are not a corporate tour company. We are a family of nature lovers, and whether you are a solo traveler or coming with friends, you will fit right in.
Practical Details
- Cleanliness: Swachhata important guru (cleanliness is important, boss). We leave the trail better than we found it.
- Difficulty: Moderate. You need to be agile for the cave sections, but it is accessible for anyone with a decent fitness level.
- Availability: We run batches throughout the summer season. Check the upcoming weekend slots, and let's get out into our naadu.
