Real Talk: A No-Nonsense Guide to Canine Training

Forget the fluff and social media trends. Here is the straight truth on what it actually takes to build a real relationship with your dog.

A frank message about who I am as a trainer. If you want to turn your dog into a robot or have unrealistic expectations, I am not the right person for you. I work on building relationships and letting dogs be dogs.

The most common question I get is "what dog should we get?". My answer is simple: if you don't have time, don't get a dog. It's a lifetime responsibility, not a toy to please your kids.

I have a question for you about expectations. We can't even meet all our parents' expectations, so why do we place so many unrealistic ones on our dogs? My request is to be realistic and focus on building trust.

This is a rant about what I see on social media. Dogs don't want to get married or wear gold chains. We need to get back to basics and think about what dogs truly want and need to be happy.

About this collection

Training isn't a five-day course you can finish and forget about. It is not like taking a dose of antibiotics where the problem magically disappears after a few days. It is a daily, lifelong routine, and if you aren’t ready to put in the time every single day, no amount of professional help will fix the core issue. You are not just hiring a trainer to fix a behaviour; you are hiring a coach to guide you on how to live with your pet.

Why Social Media Gets It Wrong

I see so many videos today where dogs are dressed in gold chains, doing headstands, or 'singing.' This isn't what dogs want. Social media has filled our brains with rubbish that has nothing to do with canine welfare. Dogs don't want to be performers; they want structure, mental stimulation, and a calm leader. When we project human desires—like forcing them to be best friends with every dog they meet—we create anxious, overstimulated animals.

The 'Robot' Fallacy

Many people call me asking, 'Can you make my dog sit/stay/come on command every single time?' If you want a robot that obeys every instruction like a machine, I am not the right trainer for you. Dogs have off days, they have moods, and they have distinct personalities. My philosophy is about building a relationship based on trust, not blind obedience. I want your dog to be able to exist calmly in a chaotic environment like Indiranagar or Hennur, not just perform tricks in your living room.

Your Role as an Owner

There is a fundamental question you must ask yourself: do you have the time? If you are a busy household that doesn't have time to walk, nurture, or engage with your dog, you shouldn't get a dog in the first place. Training is a partnership. Whether we are working on leash pulling, crate training, or reactivity, the success of the program depends on you continuing the work at home. If you are ready to be honest about your own role in your dog's behaviour and are willing to put in the daily effort, let’s have a conversation.

I’m Disha, and before I’m a certified canine trainer, I’m Duggu’s mom first. My work is simple: I don’t believe in turning dogs into robots, but in teaching them how to live peacefully with their humans through consistency and clear boundaries.
