Atmospheric Mountain & Hillside Portrait Photography
Mountains aren't just backdrops for me. They are where we strip away the noise and find the real story through natural light and raw terrain.
This reel gives you a feel for the incredible landscapes in the Lahaul Valley. I travel to these locations to offer truly unique destination photoshoots set against the majestic Himalayas.
Exploring the Sissu waterfall in Lahaul during winter. The frozen waterfall and snowy landscape provide a rare and breathtaking setting for an adventurous couple or solo traveler photoshoot.
An impromptu portrait session in the Aravalli hills. The warm, earthy tones of the rocks and the simple white outfit create a clean and natural look that feels both modern and timeless.
A wider shot from a portrait session on a rocky hill. This image shows how I use the natural environment to frame the subject, creating a sense of place and context for the portrait.
A golden hour portrait taken in a rugged, hilly area. The warm light and natural setting complement the casual styling, resulting in an authentic and relaxed outdoor photograph.
About Mountain & Hillside Shoots
I don't carry artificial lighting rigs into the mountains. We rely on the natural drama of the golden hour, the shift in weather, and the textures of the landscape. Because we are working with what nature provides, these sessions feel less like a project and more like a collaboration with the terrain itself.
Whether it is the harsh, dramatic landscapes of Spiti and Lahaul or the grounded, earthy tones of the Aravalli hills, my approach to mountain photography is always the same: keep it raw. I do not use artificial lights or big setups. Instead, I chase the way light hits a valley at dawn or fades behind a jagged peak during sunset.
What to expect
- Natural Lighting: We work with the sun. This means schedules are tight. We shoot during the golden hour when the light is soft and cinematic. If clouds roll in or it drizzles, we do not pack up. We keep shooting. That is often when the most honest photos happen.
- Minimal Gear: My Nikon Z6ii and 24-70mm lens are all I bring. This allows us to move fast, hike to better spots, and stay mobile.
- Location Scouting: For full-day sessions, I prefer moving between two or three distinct spots. We might start near a waterfall for those moody, mist-filled frames and move to a high ridge for wide, landscape-driven portraits.
- Comfort: Mountain weather is unpredictable. Come prepared with layers. Since we are usually away from the city, these sessions require a bit of travel, but the result is a set of portraits that feel like they belong to the earth, not a studio.
If you have a specific spot in mind, let me know. I am happy to hike to a hidden gem or keep it local if you are just looking for a quick hillside vibe.
