About Abacus & Mental Math

In my classroom, we move away from rote memorization. We use the tactile 17-rod abacus to help children visualize numbers, turning abstract arithmetic into something they can actually touch and manipulate. Because I keep our batches small, usually 6 to 10 students, I can give every child the individual attention they need to correct their technique and build genuine speed.
