Multi-Pitch Climbing Adventures Near Bangalore
Experience the scale of Bangalore’s best granite walls. From the 13-pitch lines at Talai Betta to the high-exposure views at Varlakonda, our multi-pitch adventures are about endurance, big scenery, and sharing the rope with a community that has your back.
We recently unlocked Talai Betta, establishing 320 meters of new routes over 13 pitches. Climbing a multi-pitch is like starring in your own action movie, and this project was an epic one, spread over 12 weekends.

The realization of a dream. Akash, who was inspired by seeing climbers on Savandurga in 2019, finally got to climb the iconic 400-meter 'Beladingulu' route himself. A special permission climb that we are all grateful for.
An aerial view of a climber on the 50-meter Gaali Kallu spire. This route has a fascinating story involving local villagers who believe a statue of the bull-god Basava sits on one of its ledges.

About Multi-Pitch Adventures & Scenic Routes
Multi-pitch climbing is about managing the transition from the ground to the summit. It requires more than just fitness; it is about communication, system efficiency, and trusting your belayer hundreds of feet up. We focus on the logistics—rigging, route navigation, and managing exposure—so you can focus on the movement. Whether we are at Talai Betta or exploring new lines, we ensure the systems are dialed in before anyone leaves the ground.
Multi-pitch climbing is often like starring in your own action movie. You are moving through a series of pitches, building belay stations, and managing rope drag and communication across distances. It is a significant step up from single-pitch sport climbing, and it is where the most rewarding climbing experiences happen.
Our approach is heavily rooted in development and exploration. We don’t just climb existing routes; we put in the work to make these places accessible. Take our recent project at Talai Betta, also known as 'Mahout Rock'. Over 12 weekends, we established 320 meters of new routes across 13 pitches. This isn’t just rock; it’s a modern climbing destination with grades ranging from 5.9R to 5.11c, offering a mix of orange and grey granite that is as beautiful as it is challenging.
We also frequent crags like Varlakonda, about 90km north of Bangalore. It is a gem with over 40 routes, including seven distinct multi-pitches. When you climb with us here, you are getting more than just a belay. You are getting the local beta, guidance on route finding, and the safety culture that defines the Bangalore Climbing Initiatives. We pride ourselves on creating a safe, inclusive space where beginners can learn the ropes and experienced climbers can push their limits on traditional, multi-pitch, and sport lines. If you are ready to get off the ground and spend the day on the wall, we are out there every weekend.
Climbing Initiatives
We are the Bangalore Climbing Initiatives, a collective that is completely hooked on the rocks around here. We’re out on the crags every weekend—not just to climb, but to build routes, share beta, and make sure every person on the wall feels like part of the family.
