The living and dining space in The Filigree House is a study in modern elegance. Sleek sofas and a refined dining table are set against a backdrop of rich wood and marble, creating a tranquil and sophisticated atmosphere.

The main door of The Filigree House is a work of art in itself. Crafted from rich wood, it features unique, curved inlays that create a sense of rhythm and hint at the detailed craftsmanship found throughout the home.

A long corridor in The Filigree House is transformed by rich wood paneling and a gleaming marble floor. A single piece of minimalist art breaks the expanse of wood, creating a serene and gallery-like passage.

This hallway in The Filigree House showcases our attention to detail. A uniquely patterned wooden ceiling draws the eye upward, while integrated lighting and marble walls create a path of modern elegance.

This cozy balcony in The Filigree House features a bar-height counter and stools, offering a perfect spot to enjoy the city view. The space is enclosed with safety netting, making it a practical and serene urban retreat.

About this collection

In this 1,682 sq. ft. Mumbai residence, we focused on the transition between spaces to create a seamless flow. We replaced standard door designs with custom, curved wooden inlays and integrated clever cabinetry that disappears into the paneling. When planning your own home, consider how these joinery details can define your layout rather than just filling a room, as it significantly impacts how open your apartment feels.

The Filigree House represents our philosophy of narrative-driven design. Located in New Cuffe Parade, this 1,682 sq. ft. apartment required a balance between opulent materials and practical urban functionality.

Key Features

  • Material Palette: We utilized book-matched marble to anchor the living areas, paired with rich wood paneling that creates warmth. The continuity of these materials from the floor to the ceiling in corridors gives the illusion of a larger, gallery-like space.
  • Custom Joinery: Every piece of woodwork, from the feature walls to the sliding doors between the master suite and the ensuite, was custom-built. This allows us to hide structural elements or storage, keeping the lines clean and uncluttered.
  • Spatial Flow: By aligning the living and dining zones with the balcony, we maximized natural light and the city view. The balcony itself was treated as a secondary living space, complete with high-top seating and secure, discrete safety features that do not obstruct the vista.
  • Lighting Design: We collaborated with partners like Ivytech and The White Teak to layer the lighting, ensuring that the dramatic wood grains are highlighted without causing glare.

Whether you are planning a luxury penthouse renovation or a full home design, the lesson from this project is clear: consistency in material choice and custom-made elements can transform standard apartment layouts into a cohesive sanctuary.
