My Documentary Approach
- Paas Jaake (Getting Close): To capture the soul of a person, you have to be present. I don't use long lenses to hide; I build a rapport with the subject. This is how I captured the Naga Sadhu in a car at night—by being in the moment with him.
- Natural Lighting: I don't use heavy rigs for portraits. I rely on the golden hour, ambient city light, or firelight to keep the look warm, cinematic, and truthful.
- Location Agnostic: Whether you are in Delhi, the lanes of Varanasi, or high up in Ladakh, I go where the story is. I adapt to the environment rather than forcing the environment to fit a specific aesthetic.
