Traditional Indian Folk Art
I bring the timeless stories of Indian folk art into modern homes. From the vibrant patterns of Madhubani to the earthy, storytelling nature of Warli, each piece is hand-painted to add a unique, soulful touch to your decor.
This Madhubani painting of Surya Dev (the Sun God) was created with a unique pastel palette. It's a modern take on a traditional art form, perfect for adding a touch of culture to your walls.
Here, I'm painting a traditional Warli art pattern onto an earthen pot, or *matka*. This tribal art form uses simple shapes to tell stories of life and community, turning a simple object into a piece of decor.

A Madhubani-style peacock, drawn with intricate zentangle-like patterns. The bold yellow background makes the black and white design stand out.
A hand-painted bookmark featuring elephants and a lotus in the Madhubani style. It's a small piece of traditional art to accompany you on your reading journey.

About this collection
When working on traditional forms like Madhubani, I often experiment with palettes beyond the usual primary colours, such as the soft pastels I used for my Surya Dev canvas. Every piece, whether it is a wall hanging or a hand-painted matka (earthen pot), is finished with a durable varnish to protect the artwork from moisture and dust, ensuring it stays vibrant on your walls.
Traditional Indian folk art has a special way of grounding a home. I work primarily with two distinct styles, each with its own rhythm and history.
Madhubani Art
Originating from the Mithila region, Madhubani is all about storytelling. I use intricate zentangle-like patterns, fish, lotus, and peacock motifs to fill the space. While I respect the traditional vibrant colour schemes, I also love modernizing the look with pastel tones on high-quality 200+ GSM paper or stretched canvas. These make for beautiful statement pieces or personalized bookmarks.
Warli Art
Warli is the language of simplicity. It relies on basic geometric shapes—circles, triangles, and squares—to depict scenes of daily life, community, and nature. I love painting these designs on earthy surfaces, particularly terracotta pots. Because these items are often used decoratively around the house, I ensure they are sealed with multiple layers of waterproof varnish, making them easy to maintain.
Customization
If you have a specific space in your home that needs a touch of tradition, we can collaborate. Whether it is a large canvas painting or a small custom-painted pot, I can work with your preferred themes and colour palettes. Every item is hand-painted and signed, so you receive a piece that is truly one-of-a-kind.
Shalini
Hi, I’m Shalini. Art is my therapy and my happy place, especially when I’m getting lost in the intricate lines of a Madhubani pattern or sketching Warli figures. I pour a lot of love into these traditional forms, hoping they bring the same sense of peace and colour to your home that they bring to my studio.
