My sculptural pieces are not just about paint. I build them with modeling paste and stiffened fabric to create ridges you can actually feel. Because of this high-relief profile, I treat every layer with a specialized fixative spray, which stops dust from accumulating and prevents those delicate peaks from flaking over time.
Texture changes everything in a room. When I work on these 3D commissions, the goal is to create movement that shifts depending on how the light hits your wall.
I use professional-grade acrylics combined with modeling paste and textured fabrics to build up the surface. Some clients want soft, flowing waves that mimic the ocean, while others prefer sharp, geometric blocks that lean into a brutalist aesthetic. If you want a bit of luxury, we can incorporate 24ct gold or silver leaf, which catches the light beautifully against the matte finish of the paste.
Every piece is built on heavy-duty wooden stretcher bars, usually 1.5 inches deep, to handle the weight of the materials. Because these pieces are physical and dimensional, I put a lot of care into the structural integrity. The canvas edges are wrapped and painted, so you do not even need an external frame if you prefer a clean look.
Maintenance is straightforward. While the fixative spray creates a protective seal, a soft duster or a light brush is all you need to keep the ridges clean. If you are planning a piece for a commercial lobby or a large residential feature wall, let me know early, as the drying time for these thicker textures is longer than standard flat painting. It takes time, but it results in a piece of art that you can engage with physically, not just visually.
