About Bridal Shelas & Floral Dupattas
A quick tip: these shelas are made of thousands of individual fresh buds, so they are quite delicate. They are perfect for your bridal entry or the main ceremony, but try to avoid harsh sunlight or direct heat for too long to keep the petals looking crisp. I build them on a sturdy but flexible base so they drape gracefully over your shoulders without feeling too heavy.
The Art of the Floral Shela
When I make a shela or floral dupatta, I am not just stringing flowers together. I am knotting thousands of individual jasmine (tagar) buds to create a fabric-like weave. This is a time-intensive process, and it creates a result that looks soft and luxurious but is surprisingly durable for a few hours of wear.
Styles I Offer
- Thai-Pattern Weave: This is my signature style. I use a net-like technique that creates a structured, intricate pattern. It looks stunning in photographs and sits perfectly on your shoulders.
- Classic Chadder: If you are planning a Haldi or a simple, vibrant ceremony, a floral chadder with a marigold or rose border is a great choice. It adds a traditional touch and pairs beautifully with yellow or green sarees.
- Custom Borders: I can finish any shela with specific borders to match your saree. Whether you want deep red roses, bright marigolds, or elegant orchids, we can coordinate the color palette to match your outfit perfectly.
How to Plan Your Order
Since I use only fresh flowers, I do not keep these in stock. I prepare your piece on the day of your event so it is at peak freshness when you step out.
- Lead Time: Please book at least 15 days in advance so I can source the right flowers and plan the weaving.
- Usage: These are designed for ceremonies lasting 6 to 8 hours. If you have an outdoor event in the Mumbai heat, let me know so I can suggest specific flower varieties that hold up better.
