I have a whole box of goodies like baby shoes, tiaras, and chalkboard signs, but I am always excited to include something personal you bring along.
When we talk about props, I really just mean the little things that help tell your specific story. A maternity shoot is a big milestone, and sometimes a simple prop is all you need to make the photos feel more like your own.
What I Bring to the Table
My studio on Harlur Main Road is stocked with all sorts of extras. I have tiny shoes, tiaras, floral crowns, and various letter boards for announcements. If you are doing a gender reveal, I have signs for that too. I tend to lean towards things that are cute and playful rather than overly heavy or serious. We want the focus to remain on you and your bump, not on the clutter around you.
Making It Yours
I love it when clients bring their own items. Do you have a specific onesie you bought? An ultrasound print that means the world to you? Maybe a stuffed toy that will be the baby's first friend? Bringing something personal makes the shoot feel much more like home. Even if you aren't sure what to bring, tell me about your interests. If you are a gaming family, for example, we can make that work with the right setup.
Keeping the Balance
The trick with themes and props is balance. We don't want the prop to overshadow the joy of the moment. During our planning, we will figure out which themes match your outfit and the overall vibe you want, whether it is a fairy tale garden look or a simple indoor studio session.
