Field Work and Outdoor Dog Obedience Training
I move training out of the living room and into open fields. We work on focus, recall, and real obedience where the distractions are real, not just inside your home.
On the grass field, we practice close-contact heeling to keep the dog's attention on me while walking. After the work is done, we switch to a game of fetch. This teaches the dog that listening to commands can also lead to fun rewards.
It is important that a dog can perform in any environment. Here, we are doing the same heeling and fetch drills as on the grass, but on a dirt field. This ensures the training sticks, no matter where you take your dog.
Our large, open fields are perfect for letting dogs run and burn off energy safely. I use this space for long-distance recall practice and high-energy games. This is a key part of their daily routine at my obedience bootcamp.
About Field Work: Obedience and Play
Most trainers stick to indoor sessions, but that is not enough. Your dog needs to listen when there is traffic, wind, and open space. At my Chikkabanavara facility, I run these drills on actual dirt tracks and grass fields to build real endurance and focus. If your dog gets distracted or pulls on the leash outside, this is where we fix it.
Why Training Outside Matters
When I say Namma dogs alli focus nalla barbeku (our dogs should have focus), I mean everywhere. A dog that listens in your kitchen might completely ignore you at the park. That is why my obedience bootcamp is strictly outdoor-based.
The Training Environment
My facility in Chikkabanavara has the open space needed for high-energy breeds like Malinois, GSDs, and Labs to run safely. We do not just sit and stay. We run, we fetch, and we integrate commands during physical activity. This keeps the dog engaged and makes the learning stick.
What We Focus On
- Real Leash Manners: We tackle pulling on real roads and paths, not synthetic turf. This ensures your dog walks calmly by your side regardless of what is happening around you.
- Distance Control: Teaching your dog to wait or sit while I am 50 feet away on a field. This builds reliability off the leash.
- Energy Management: A tired dog is a disciplined dog. We use these fields to burn excess energy, which makes the actual training part much faster and more effective.
Whether you are looking for a 12-day behavioral correction or a 30-day advanced boot camp, we use these outdoor sessions to bridge the gap between being trained at home and being behaved in public.
