Managing celebrity guests is not about being a fan on stage, it is about being their anchor. Whether I am interviewing a cricket legend like Virender Sehwag or managing a grand entry for Katrina Kaif, the goal is always to keep the guest comfortable so they can shine, while ensuring the audience stays fully engaged. It requires strict protocol management behind the scenes and absolute spontaneity when the mic is live, ensuring the event flows seamlessly without a single dull moment.
Hosting for celebrities and C-suite executives requires a shift in approach. It is less about being the 'star' of the show and more about being the bridge that connects the talent to the audience.
The Art of VIP Hosting
My process for these events starts long before the curtain goes up.
- Protocol & Research: For tech summits like those with Oracle or economic forums featuring leaders like Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, I conduct deep-dive research into the speakers. Understanding their journey is crucial for asking questions that move beyond the surface.
- Crisis Management: When dealing with celebrities, technical glitches or delays can be high-pressure. I use my Radio Jockey training to fill dead air professionally, keeping the crowd entertained without the guest realizing there is an issue.
- The Vibe Check: Whether it is a formal panel moderation or a high-octane brand launch with a sports personality, the energy must match the room. I switch between formal English and conversational Hindi to keep the atmosphere accessible yet premium.
Why Prep Matters
If a celebrity or VIP feels comfortable on stage, they open up. That is where the magic happens. By handling the flow of the event, managing the timing, and acting as a buffer for the guest, I ensure that the brand’s message is delivered with impact. Stage pe aag toh lagegi hi, but it needs a solid foundation to sustain it.
