Acoustic Covers: Soulful Live Performances
I love taking familiar melodies and turning them into intimate stories. Whether it is a classic Bollywood track or an indie favorite, these acoustic performances are designed to create a warm, shared atmosphere.
A beautifully shot cover of "Agar Tum Saath Ho". The city lights in the background added to the melancholic, romantic mood.
Anuv Jain's "Husn" really speaks to the difficulties of finding love in this generation. Someone had to say it.
An all-time favorite, "Khaabon Ke Parinday" from ZNMD. This song is pure wanderlust and dreams.
Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" carries so much depth. A simple, raw cover of a deeply introspective song.
I didn't have my guitar with me, so I did a keys cover of "If The World Was Ending". It's amazing how different instruments bring out new emotions in a song.
A soulful acoustic cover of Atif Aslam's classic "Jeena Jeena". A song to send to someone who taught you how to live.
Gajendra Verma's music is always on my playlist. This song lives in my head rent-free, so I had to do a cover.
Another take on Anuv Jain's "Husn". The lyrics have so much depth, I keep coming back to it.
Singing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" in a 500-year-old fort in Kerala. The natural reverb was absolutely insane.
An impromptu jam session with the band, playing "Kho Gaye Hum Kahan". These spontaneous musical moments are the best.
About Acoustic Covers: My Take on Favorites
When I perform a cover, I do not just mimic the original recording. I break the track down to its core, often just me and my guitar, to find the emotion the lyrics are holding. That is why you might hear classics like 'Pehli Nazar Mein' or indie songs like 'Husn' sound stripped-back and more personal than the versions you hear on the radio.
Music is a two-way street for me. When I pick a song to cover, it usually reflects where I am in life, whether I am missing home, navigating the daily rush, or simply trying to capture the feeling of a quiet evening. I strip away the production layers to focus on the melody and the story. This format is perfect for intimate gatherings where you want the music to be a companion to the conversation rather than a distraction.
For these acoustic sets, the simplicity is the point. If I am playing solo with my guitar, I can dial the intensity up or down based on how the room feels. If you want a bit more rhythm, my trio setup brings in percussion, which adds warmth without losing that organic, live-music feel. I generally ask for a standard PA system with a vocal mic and a DI box for my guitar, the basics to ensure the sound stays raw and real.
I have taken these sets to venues ranging from intimate cafes in Mumbai to quiet corners in Jammu. Because I travel across India, we can make it work regardless of where your event is. My goal is simple, to make sure you and your guests feel like you are listening to a friend perform in your living room, even if we are in a larger space.
Akshita Mengi
I started writing at 10, and music has been my way of being real ever since. I am just as comfortable singing a Bollywood classic as I am an indie ballad, and I love creating a space where we can all drop our armor for a while.
