Agility and Footwork Training for Table Tennis
Speed is king on the table. My 'Raftaar' (speed) sessions use agility ladders and cone drills to turn you into a lightning-fast player. Let's get moving! 🏓
This clip shows a player executing a fast footwork drill on the agility ladder. This exercise is crucial for developing the coordination and speed needed to move efficiently around the table during a match.
Here, you can see my players weaving through a series of cones. These drills are designed to improve lateral movement and the ability to change direction on a dime, a key skill for any serious table tennis player.
We take our training outdoors to work on speed and endurance in a different environment. This video shows players performing shuttle runs and agility drills in a larger space to build stamina.
About Agility & Footwork: The 'Raftaar' Zone
You won't just stand and hit balls here. I use the marble flooring at Haridham Mandir to run specific lateral movement drills using agility ladders and cones. Whether you are 4 or 40, these sessions change how you recover for the next shot. It is simple: if you can move faster, you win more.
In table tennis, your hands can only be as fast as your feet. I call my students 'Raftaar ke avtaar' because, at the table, hesitation kills your game. Most players focus only on their racket swing, but the real magic happens in your legs.
We use ladder drills to build rhythm—one-in, two-in, side-steps—that mimic the explosive shifts needed in a match. We also use cones for lateral movement, training your brain to change direction on a dime. For my younger players, fitness shouldn't feel like a chore, so we turn these into high-speed tic-tac-toe games or relay races.
We train at the indoor hall at Haridham Mandir, GTB Nagar. The marble flooring is perfect for testing your grip and balance. Whether you are prepping for a state-level tournament or just want to get fit while playing ping pong, these drills are built for your level. Come ready to sweat, because we train like athletes here.
