Live music is rarely as perfect as it sounds on a recorded track. Here is a look at what actually happens before and during the show, from soundcheck struggles to the unscripted moments on stage.

Note to self: no matter how much I practice, I will forget some lyrics. This is me checking my notes right before a show. The struggle is real.

A musician's nightmare: a well-planned gig with terrible sound. We pushed through, but it's a reminder of how crucial good technical support is for a live show.

From hotel room rehearsals to performing it live on stage. This is the journey of a song from practice to performance.

A question for my fellow artists: What's your go-to soundcheck song? For me, it changes all the time depending on my mood.

The only time you can really sing sad songs at a wedding is during the sound check. Getting all the heartbreak songs out of my system before the party starts.

Just a little vocal warmup before going live. It's important to get the voice ready for a long performance.

Setting the stage on fire during the sound check. Sometimes the energy is high even before the audience arrives.

Trying out a new "go-to" sound check song. This is the time to test the acoustics of the venue and get comfortable on stage.

A little something to keep you entertained while we set up. The sound check is a performance in itself.

I like to keep my audience on their toes. Sometimes I'll stop mid-song just to see if they are singing along, like a surprise test.

About The Real Gig Life (Behind the Scenes)

Soundchecks are the real work. It is the only time I get to test the acoustics and actually warm up my voice, so I need at least 45 minutes of quiet time before guests arrive. It might seem like a lot, but this preparation is the difference between a smooth performance and the technical glitches that can kill the vibe of a song.
