Finding the right shade is about more than just a color card. Discover my go-to paint codes, how to test lighting, and the 60-30-10 rule for perfectly balanced rooms.

I cannot stress this enough: always test paint swatches on-site. Colors look different depending on the natural and artificial light in a room, so sampling is the only way to ensure you love the color before committing.

Getting samples made for your color selections at the site is a critical step. It allows you to see how the color interacts with the room's lighting and other materials before you paint the entire wall.

The 60-30-10 rule is a simple guideline for creating a balanced color scheme. 60% of your room should be a dominant color, 30% a secondary color, and 10% an accent color to add a pop of personality.

Raw Cotton (Code 8459) by Asian Paints is one of my most-used neutral colors. It's a soft, versatile beige with warm undertones that creates a tranquil and inviting ambiance in any space.

If you're looking for a foolproof shade of white, try Cotton Wool (Code L104) by Asian Paints. It's a clean, warm white that works beautifully in modern, minimal spaces with classic wall mouldings.

Cotton Wool by Asian Paints is a cozy and calming white with a hint of a warm undertone. It's a great choice if you're renovating or building a new home and want a white that doesn't feel cold or stark.

Eggshell (L149) by Asian Paints is the perfect white. It's not too yellow or too blue, making it one of my go-to colors when I want a clean, neutral white for any project.

My favorite taupe color is Silk Route (Code N013) by Asian Paints. It's a beautiful, warm neutral that sits perfectly between beige and grey, making it incredibly versatile for modern interiors.

Here are the color codes for this neutral bedroom. The walls are painted in Raw Cotton (8459) and the study table is in a slightly lighter shade, Twinkling Star (8466), both by Asian Paints.

Grey can be a tricky color, but I've found the perfect one. This is Pilgrim (6129) by Asian Paints, a sophisticated mid-tone grey that looks stunning on walls with classic moulding details.

About A Guide to Paint & Color

The secret to a great room isn't just the paint code; it is how you test it. Never finalize a color based on a digital image or a tiny swatch in the store. I always insist on making a physical sample on the actual wall, then checking it at three different times: morning, noon, and evening. Natural and artificial light will shift the tone completely.
