My Gardening Journey: From Balcony Experiments to Blooms
Welcome to my plant family! I'm Shailee, and here I share the real, messy, and joyful side of learning how to grow your own food in city spaces.
I was so happy to be featured by SheThePeople Hindi for an article about my gardening journey. It's wonderful to be able to share my passion for connecting with nature.
A happy moment while repotting a plant. Getting your hands dirty and tending to your plants is one of the most calming and rewarding activities.
My first white marigold grown from seed. Gardening is full of these small, beautiful achievements that bring so much joy.
Another look at this gorgeous white marigold. My next step is to learn how to save seeds from this flower so I can grow more next year.
About My Gardening Journey
Most of the marigolds you see here were grown from humble seeds, not expensive nursery saplings. I failed with plenty of seeds before getting it right, but that’s the best part of the process. You learn so much more from the plants that struggle than the ones that bloom effortlessly, and I'm here to help you skip the frustration and get straight to the rewards.
It Started with a Few Pots
Gardening isn't a complex science, even though it can feel like one when you start. My journey began with simple, everyday experiments on a small balcony. I didn't have a massive yard or expensive equipment. I used old containers, learned to mix my own soil using basic composting tricks, and treated my balcony like a mini-lab.
Why I Share My Wins (and My Fails)
You will see photos of my successful harvests, like my cauliflower (gobhi da phool) or bright marigolds, but I also talk about the times things didn't go to plan. Whether it was monkeys raiding my corn or pests attacking my greens, those moments taught me resilience.
How We Can Get You Started
My goal isn't just to show pretty pictures; it’s to help you experience the joy of eating your own homegrown produce. I break down complex gardening into easy steps:
- Container Selection: You don't need fancy pots. We look at how to repurpose household items.
- Organic Care: Simple, home-based solutions for pests using things like neem oil.
- Seasonal Planning: Knowing what to plant in North India's specific climate.
- Seed Saving: Learning how to close the loop so you can grow your next generation of plants for free.
Whether you are struggling with a droopy plant or just don't know where to place your pots to get enough sun, I offer practical, one-on-one video calls and on-site visits to troubleshoot your space.
