Grow Your Own Veggies & Fruits at Home
Whether you have a terrace, balcony, or just a small windowsill, you can grow your own food. Join me as we experiment with everything from gourds to tomatoes, using whatever containers we have lying around.
Another proud harvest moment with these beautiful bottle gourds, grown right on my terrace. There is nothing more satisfying than cooking with vegetables you have grown yourself.
From my garden to yours. Here I am harvesting homegrown luffa sponges. After they dry, I collect the seeds to share with our community members in giveaways, so everyone gets a chance to grow these amazing, eco-friendly sponges.
Getting ready for our winter garden challenge. This is my collection of seeds, including red pusa tomato, broccoli, French beans, and different types of marigolds, all ready to be sown.
About Grow Your Own Veggies & Fruits
Most people think they need a large yard to grow vegetables, but my own terrace setup proves otherwise. I often use old plastic containers and kitchen scraps to grow everything from tomatoes to bottle gourds, which keeps costs low and reduces waste. If you’re curious about whether your specific balcony or windowsill gets the right kind of sunlight for a veggie harvest, let's chat about it.
From Seed to Harvest in Small Spaces
Starting a vegetable garden in a city apartment often feels daunting, but it doesn't have to be perfect from day one. My own journey started on a small, crowded balcony, and honestly, some of my best lessons came from the times things didn't go as planned. Whether it's dealing with limited sunlight or even monkey raids on my corn, it is all part of the process.
My Approach to Urban Gardening
I focus on practical, 'best out of waste' techniques. We reuse everyday plastic containers, create our own organic soil mixes, and save seeds from our harvests—like the luffas I dry and share with our community in seed giveaways. We don't use fancy chemicals. Instead, we learn to understand our plants and what they need to thrive in a container.
We run seasonal challenges where we all sow together, share weekly updates, and troubleshoot common issues like pests or slow growth. It is not about becoming an expert overnight; it is about learning the cycle of nature, mil-jul kar (growing together).
What You Can Expect
If you’re ready to get your hands dirty, whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your yield, my workshops cover the full crop cycle. We talk about:
- Planning: Choosing the right vegetables for your balcony's sunlight exposure.
- Soil & Prep: Making potting mixes from household scraps.
- Seed Care: Knowing when to sow, how to transplant, and how to save seeds for next season.
- Troubleshooting: Real talk on pests, droopy plants, and what to do when your harvest fails (because it happens to the best of us).
Let’s make your space green and productive.
