Look at this monster. The leaf of our Monstera Deliciosa is huge, and it is such a rewarding plant to grow.
What do you see? Some see flaws in the holes of a Monstera leaf, but I see a unique masterpiece of nature.
Be like a Monstera: be unique, be you. This leaf is a perfect example of nature's beautiful and intricate designs.
What would you call this? A monster Monstera? The leaves on this plant just keep getting bigger and more fenestrated.
My hand for scale against this giant Monstera leaf. It is a true statement plant for any tropical garden.
Caption this. The vibrant green of a new Monstera leaf unfurling is a beautiful sight.
It is always fun to take photos with plants. Here I am with my collection of Aroids, including this magnificent Anthurium Magnificum.
About this collection
Exotic plants like Monstera or Anthurium often look intimidating, but they thrive with simple care adjustments. Most beginners over-water them. My approach is to understand the plant's natural environment and replicate that humidity and light balance, even in a standard Bengaluru balcony or terrace.
Many people assume that rare foliage like Monstera, Anthurium, and Aristolochia require massive greenhouses. In my Bengaluru home, I have proven that these exotic beauties are much more resilient than they seem. The secret lies in understanding their native habitat.
Most of these plants come from tropical, humid forests. In a Bengaluru apartment, you can replicate this by grouping plants together to create a micro-climate or using a humidifier. Avoid placing them in direct, harsh afternoon sun. Instead, look for bright, indirect light spots in your home.
The Aristolochia Gigantea, or Pelican Flower, is a personal favorite for its sheer uniqueness, while Hoyas offer wonderful fragrance and climbing beauty. When you are just starting, do not try to buy everything at once. Pick one type of aroid or climber, observe how it reacts to your home's light and airflow, and learn from it.
If you have a balcony or a small patch of terrace, you have enough space. I focus on soil mixes that drain well, preventing root rot, which is the most common mistake with exotic foliage. Whether you want to attract pollinators or just enjoy the aesthetic, these plants add a distinct layer of life to any urban setup. Feel free to ask me about setting up your first exotic collection.
