Why We Do Creative Contests

I started Zia's Academy back in 1989 because I wanted skating to be more than just drills and speed. While speed skating is great, I realized that many kids need a way to express themselves and fall in love with the sport before they focus on competition. That is why I introduced our creative skating events.

What to Expect at Our Events

These are not races. We host fashion shows on wheels and fancy dress competitions where the goal is to have fun, not to clock the fastest time. You will see children gliding in character as Spiderman, Disney princesses, or even traditional outfits. We organize these in safe, controlled environments like St. Mary’s ICSE in Mazgaon, where we use music and mascots like Mickey Mouse to keep the energy high.

Building Confidence Through Play

For a child, skating in a costume is a big deal. It forces them to balance, adjust their posture, and interact with an audience. I have seen shy kids transform once they put on their skating gear and a cape. It gives them a sense of ownership over their movement. We make sure the costumes are safe for the track, often providing tips on what works best for skating and what might hinder movement.

Inclusive Fun for Every Skater

These events are open to all my students, regardless of their skill level. Whether your child is just learning to balance or has been skating for years, they get a chance to be on the 'runway.'
