Henna Care & Tips for a Dark, Lasting Stain

The biggest mistake most brides make is letting their hands get wet too soon. I always tell my clients to avoid water for 24 hours after the paste is scraped off. It sounds tough, but that is the only way to let the color oxidize and deepen properly. If you want that rich, dark maroon, patience in those first 24 hours is everything.

Getting that perfect stain is not just about the quality of the henna. It is about how you treat your hands after I am done. Here is the reality: henna loves heat. If you sit in a cold, air-conditioned room, the henna dries out before it can deposit the dye. I recommend staying warm and comfortable so your body heat can do the work.

Another trick I share with my brides is using clove steam. Once the paste is removed, put a few cloves on a hot pan and hold your hands over the fumes. It works wonders for the color.

Also, remember that not all henna is created equal. I only use chemical-free, organic henna. Some artists use chemicals to get a darker stain quickly, but that can irritate your skin or cause reactions before your big day. Always check what your artist is using.
