Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Spaces for Modern Homes

byYellow Door ArchitectsTakes projects across BengaluruView full gallery

We dissolve the boundaries between your home and the landscape. Our design approach integrates lush terraces, internal courtyards, and open-plan layouts to bring natural light and greenery into every corner of your daily life.

An aerial view of the Earth Abode farmhouse, showing how the architecture is broken into smaller volumes that follow the contours of the land, with green roofs and pathways that merge the structure with the landscape.

The library and home office at HAUS 5 opens completely onto a lush, covered terrace. This seamless transition extends the living space and allows for work and relaxation surrounded by nature.

The terrace lounge at Kamala Residence was designed as a serene retreat from the city. A metal pergola frames the view of the Tirupati hills and mitigates sunlight, while cane furniture enhances the tropical theme.

The alternating balconies at Kamala Residence create engaging visual connections between floors. This courtyard-like space is furnished with a live-edge table and peacock-style cane chairs, creating a private garden oasis.

The swimming pool at our Earth Abode project is integrated directly with the architecture. A staircase appears to rise directly from the water, leading to an upper level, blurring the lines between landscape, water, and home.

The outdoor dining area on the HAUS 5 terrace. A large live-edge wooden table and benches sit on earthy brick flooring, creating a perfect space for entertaining.

A vibrant, custom-painted mural serves as the backdrop for the bar area on the HAUS 5 terrace, adding a splash of color and personality to the outdoor space.

About this collection

We don't just add balconies; we treat the threshold as an extension of the floor plan. By aligning internal flooring materials like terracotta brick or oxide with the outdoor deck, we visually extend your living room into the open air. This continuity is planned during our initial layout phase, where we conceal sliding doors within wall pockets, truly merging your home with the view.

Creating a home that breathes requires more than just large windows. It begins with site analysis, mapping the sun path and prevailing wind directions to ensure these open spaces remain comfortable throughout the year. In our projects, such as the Kamala Residence in Tirupati, we use metal pergolas and terracotta breeze blocks to frame vistas while mitigating harsh direct sunlight, allowing for a temperate outdoor experience.

The selection of flooring is critical in achieving a seamless transition. When you use the same material, be it natural stone, brick, or oxide, on both the interior and exterior, the eye perceives the space as a single, expanded volume. This technique is particularly effective in compact urban plots where square footage is at a premium, as it tricks the perception of depth and brings the outdoors inside.

We also focus on structural integrity. For seamless integration, we coordinate with engineers to design cantilevered balconies and minimal support systems. This ensures your terrace is not just a place to stand, but a functional room that extends your living or dining area. Whether it is integrating a pool directly with the building staircase or carving out an interior courtyard to act as a light well, our design priority is to keep the connection between your home and nature constant, quiet, and meaningful.
