Meet the Maker: Our Tinkering Journey
I'm Rohan. I started Tinkernauts because I wanted to say 'yes' to curiosity. Here is the story behind our maker mindset and why I believe every kid deserves access to real tools.
Tinkernauts began with a simple shift in my own parenting. I realized that saying "no" to exploration was closing doors to curiosity. This is the story of how we started saying "yes" to mess, tools, and trying new things.
What was my inspiration for starting Tinkernauts? It came from my own kids and the realization that parents need a way to say "yes" to their children's curiosity in a safe and fun manner.
I started Tinkernauts to create a safe space for kids to have fun, break things, and learn how they work. My mission is to build a generation of confident DIYers and thoughtful consumers.
I believe that giving a kid a tool can turn their curiosity into creation. Here, I explain our mission to inspire the next generation to not just use things, but to understand, make, and fix them too.
There are many ways to join our tinkering journey. In this video, I explain our different offerings, from in-person summer classes and school programs to our handcrafted DIY kits that you can build at home.
For those who are new here, let me introduce myself. I'm Rohan, and this video is a quick introduction to what we're all about at Tinkernauts.
In this episode of "Tools & Techniques," I give a quick tutorial on the glue gun. I cover the basics, like heating it up, using the right glue stick, and safety tips to avoid a sticky mess.
Let's talk about the screwdriver. In this video, I break down the different types of bits, like Phillips and Torx, and show how to use extensions and T-handles to get more leverage and reach tight spots.
"Measure twice, cut once." Today, I'm talking about measurement devices. I explain the uses for everything from a simple steel ruler and tape measure to more advanced tools like a vernier caliper and a laser range finder.
Every tinkerer needs their own toolbox. I'm unboxing our starter toolkit, which includes essentials like a glue gun, safety glasses, a reversible screwdriver, wire strippers, and a battery charger.
About Meet Our Founder & Chief Tinkernaut
I didn't start this with a master plan, I started it because I was tired of saying 'no' to my own kids. Whether it’s unboxing a starter toolkit or learning to use a multimeter, the goal is always the same: getting kids off screens and into the 'messy middle' of building something real. It’s not about perfection, it’s about confidence.
When you trust a child with a real screwdriver, you aren't just giving them a project. You are giving them permission to explore, to break things, and to figure out how the world actually works. That is the philosophy behind Tinkernauts.
Everything I build, from our mechanical kits to our electronic wonders, is designed around a simple, honest truth: mistakes are just prototypes. We don't want kids to follow a perfect, pre-determined path. We want them to feel the frustration of a gear that doesn't fit and the thrill of fixing it themselves.
Living and working here in Langford Town, I see too many kids losing that natural urge to fix and experiment because they are surrounded by plastic toys that break and get thrown away. My job is to reverse that. I want to build a generation of thoughtful consumers who understand the mechanics behind their gadgets, whether it’s a simple catapult or a Bluetooth speaker.
If you are wondering which kit is right for your child, or if you want to know more about our school programs in Bengaluru, let’s talk. I am always happy to discuss how we can make space for curiosity in your home.
Tinkernauts
I'm Rohan Raman, the founder of Tinkernauts. I believe that if you give a child a real tool, you're not just giving them a project, you're giving them permission to explore and a safe space to fail.
