About Creative Expressions: Arts & Crafts
You will notice that our art activities rarely stay confined to paper and brush. We encourage children to use natural materials like pressed leaves, flowers, and textures, which helps them connect creativity with the environment. This tactile approach is intentional—it builds essential fine motor skills while allowing them to experiment with colours and shapes in a way that feels natural to them.
More Than Just Art
At The Centennial School, we believe that 'messy hands lead to curious minds.' Our art sessions are a core part of our Montessori-inspired curriculum, designed to foster cognitive development and emotional growth.
Why We Focus on Sensory Art
Rather than asking children to copy a model or follow rigid steps, we provide a variety of textures and natural elements. When a child learns to stamp with a leaf or mix colours on a canvas, they are making independent choices. This process helps them:
- Develop Fine Motor Skills: Manipulating small items and controlling tools improves hand-eye coordination.
- Build Confidence: There is no 'right' way to create here. Every finished piece is a success, which boosts a child's belief in their own capabilities.
- Connect with Nature: By integrating flowers, leaves, and sustainable materials into our crafts, we teach children to observe the beauty in the world around them.
Our Methodology
Our classrooms are set up to encourage exploration. We rotate materials based on the theme of the week—whether it’s learning about national symbols for Independence Day or experimenting with water-based textures during Holi. We keep groups small so that our teachers can observe how each child approaches a task, offering support only when needed to ensure they learn to solve problems on their own.
The Centennial School
We started with a simple idea: let kids feel happy and free. Our team focuses on guiding little stars through activities that spark genuine curiosity, whether they are working on a collaborative mural or painting with leaves.
