Puppy Head Start Program: Building a Confident Dog
Stop waiting until your puppy is six months old to start training. The golden window for learning starts at eight weeks, and the habits you build today determine their temperament for life.
Are you waiting for your puppy to be six months old to start training? Please don't. The golden window for learning is between 8 to 16 weeks. I explain why starting training from day one with basic commands sets your puppy up for a lifetime of success.
Grooming shouldn't be a struggle. Here, I'm getting a young puppy comfortable with being brushed. Starting these handling exercises early and making them a positive experience is key to a lifetime of stress-free grooming and vet visits.
About Puppy Head Start Program
Stop waiting for the 'right age' to train your dog. That golden window of learning starts at eight weeks, and the habits you build now—like loose leash walking or getting comfortable with grooming—determine their temperament as an adult. My program focuses on teaching you the 'why' behind their actions, so you aren't just teaching commands, but building a foundation of trust that lasts a lifetime.
Why Early Training Matters
Many pet parents think formal training should wait until a puppy is six months old. Dekho (look), this is the biggest mistake you can make. Your puppy is learning every second they are awake. If you wait until they are six months old, you are already playing catch-up to fix habits that could have been shaped correctly from day one.
My Puppy Head Start Approach
This program isn't just about 'Sit' and 'Stay.' It is about shaping a confident, well-adjusted dog. We focus on four core pillars:
- Handling & Desensitization: I teach your puppy that being touched—from their ears to their paws—is a positive experience. This makes vet visits and grooming sessions stress-free for the rest of their life.
- Foundational Obedience: We introduce commands like 'Place', 'Leave It', and 'Come' in a way that respects their developing attention span. Everything is kept short, fun, and highly rewarding.
- Socialization: This isn't just about letting them run wild with other dogs. It is about controlled, supervised exposure to new sounds, surfaces, and people so they grow up to be curious, not fearful.
- Behavioral Prevention: I work with you to recognize the signs of resource guarding or reactivity before they become full-blown issues.
The Training Environment
Training happens at my 1500 sq. yard farm in Noida. It provides a natural, low-stress environment that allows your puppy to focus on the lesson rather than city distractions. We use positive reinforcement—treats are payment, not bribes. Remember, consistency is everything. Aapko patient rehna padega (you have to be patient), and I will guide you on how to maintain this structure at home so your puppy understands the rules don't change just because they moved from the farm to your living room.
