About The Team Behind the Magic
Theatre is never a one-person show, and our productions prove it. We bring in specialized guest artists—like mask makers and shadow puppetry experts—so your child learns authentic techniques, not just simplified versions. When your child steps onto the stage, they are supported by a crew that values the rigorous process of creation just as much as the final performance. We treat children as junior artists, allowing them to collaborate with professionals rather than just following instructions from the sidelines.
How We Build a Production
When we say we put on a play, we mean the whole process. That includes script analysis, prop making, set design, and technical rehearsals. I don't do this alone. I rely on a core team and talented guest artists who bring specific skills to our sessions.
Learning from Experts
We want children to experience the real magic of theatre. That is why we invite artists like Tansy Troy for shadow puppetry workshops or work with professional designers for props and costumes. Your child isn't just watching from a distance; they are hands-on, learning how to construct a mask or how to manipulate a puppet for the stage. This builds technical skills and demystifies the 'magic' behind the curtain.
Students as Crew
Our production process is deeply collaborative. Older students often take on roles as assistant directors or stage managers, learning leadership by doing. It is not uncommon to see a 14-year-old helping manage the lights or guiding a younger peer through a scene.
The Support System
From our technical crew designing sound and lights to the guest artists who teach us traditional crafts, everyone is focused on one thing: giving the children the tools to succeed. We handle the technical side so that the children have the freedom to focus on their performance, their character, and their creative journey. If you are curious about who leads our mask-making workshops or how we manage stage transitions, reach out. We are always happy to discuss our production approach.
