Practical, science-backed guidance for your daily hair and skin routine. Here is what we tell our patients to manage common issues, from hair thinning to scalp health.

I am Dr. Arpitha, a consultant dermatologist at the Venkat Center. I am here to give you simple, practical, and effective advice on everything from acne and anti-aging to hair loss, helping you feel confident in your skin.

If you are experiencing sudden hair fall, there are three simple things you can check at home. Ensure you are eating a protein-rich diet, getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep, and managing your stress levels. These basics can resolve many hair loss issues.

Did you know that a lack of sleep could be causing your hair loss? The sleep hormone, melatonin, also improves blood circulation in the scalp and extends the hair's growing phase. Less sleep means less melatonin, which can lead to more hair fall.

If hard water is causing hair fall and frizz, try these tips. Use filtered water, install a filter shower head, and use a clarifying or chelating shampoo once a week to remove mineral buildup from your scalp.

A study has shown that prolonged air drying can be more damaging to the hair shaft than using a hairdryer correctly. The best method is to use a hairdryer on a cool setting, held 15 cm away from your hair.

To manage frizzy hair during the monsoon, switch to a sulfate-free shampoo, use a thickening conditioner, and always blow dry on a cold setting. A weekly hair mask can also help lock in moisture and protect your hair.

Certain supplements can support healthier hair. Omega-3s provide essential proteins, Vitamin E repairs follicles, Vitamin C helps build collagen, and Iron delivers oxygen to the roots. Always consult a dermatologist before starting any supplements.

This graphic shows several superfoods that are great for healthy hair. Amla, eggs, pumpkin seeds, almonds, and walnuts provide essential proteins, vitamins, and minerals that support hair follicle health and promote circulation.

For brides-to-be, I recommend starting supplements like Vitamin C and iron three months before the wedding. Procedures like laser toning or chemical peels can also give you a healthy, radiant glow for your big day.

About General Hair & Skin Care Advice

Good hair and skin health rarely comes from a single miracle product. It comes from understanding your specific triggers, like water hardness, protein intake, or sleep cycles. While general tips help with minor issues, persistent problems like sudden hair fall or acne require a professional diagnosis to rule out underlying medical causes. If you have been following online advice without seeing a change, it is time to have a clinical assessment.
