Designing Serene Bedrooms and Bathrooms as Private Sanctuaries
We approach bedrooms and bathrooms as personal retreats, not just utility spaces. By integrating internal courtyards, soft light, and earthy textures, we create environments that breathe, rest, and reconnect with the outdoors.
The bedroom in the House of Veils continues the language of soft, secret spaces. An internal courtyard is enclosed in glass next to the bed, bringing nature and light deep into the private quarters of the home.
A bedroom in the House of Veils opens onto a private terrace through large sliding glass doors. The room is designed with curved walls and screened windows that filter light, creating a soft and moody atmosphere.
This bathroom in the House of Veils is a study in filtered light and texture. Perforated screens create a dramatic play of sun and shadow, while the open layout connects the bathing and dressing areas to the lush green outdoors.
A bedroom in one of our Moira homes, designed with flowing curves and a warm, serene mood. The space opens onto a private deck, and the material palette of wood and plaster creates a sense of tropical lushness.
This bedroom in the Moira homes features a bed with a custom headboard that backs onto a glass-enclosed courtyard. This design brings a pocket of nature right into the room, enhancing the feeling of tranquility.
The interiors of the Pavilion homes are designed with a sense of lightness. This bedroom features soft, textured walls and a glass-enclosed courtyard, creating an experiential space that flows seamlessly into the bathroom.
A bathroom in a Pavilion home, where filtered light enters through a courtyard and skylight. The space is designed to feel expansive, with a floating vanity and separate shower stalls that maintain an open feel.
About this collection
We frequently structure the master suite around an internal courtyard, a technique that allows us to blur the lines between inside and outside. This central pocket of greenery acts as a light well, ensuring your bedroom and bathroom remain naturally ventilated and brightly lit throughout the day, all while maintaining complete privacy from the exterior landscape.
Our approach to the private quarters of a home relies on the principles of tropical modernism. Rather than relying on air conditioning alone, we use passive ventilation techniques, such as perforated brick screens or timber louvers, to regulate the climate naturally. These screens filter sunlight, casting dynamic shadows that change throughout the day, transforming your bathroom into a meditative space.
We focus on material honesty. You will find that our designs utilize exposed concrete, local stone, and wood, allowing the building to age gracefully with the environment. In projects like the House of Veils and our Pavilion homes, we have experimented with double-height volumes and skylights to ensure that even transitional spaces, such as walk-in closets and vanity areas, feel expansive.
When we plan a bedroom, we consider the journey from the sleeping area to the bath. Often, we replace traditional hallways with open-plan layouts or glass-enclosed gardens. This continuity of flooring and texture makes the suite feel like one cohesive, expansive retreat. Whether we are working on a sloping site in the hills or a villa in the fields of Goa, our goal is to align your private space with the natural terrain. We invite you to explore how these spatial shifts can enhance the way you experience your home every single morning.
