About The Artisan's Craft: From Stone to Sculpture
It takes weeks to carve a single sculpture, starting with selecting the right block of stone for its natural grain and texture. We do not use assembly lines or mass-production molds. Instead, we rely on the eyes and hands of our experienced murtikars to ensure every curve and detail is perfect before it ever leaves our studio.
Our process begins at the quarry. We select raw blocks of marble, granite, or sandstone, looking for uniform texture and strength. Once the block arrives at our studio in Makrana, the real work starts. Our murtikars sketch the design directly onto the stone before using traditional chisels and modern precision tools to shape the figure.
Every piece is carved from a single block, meaning there are no joints or weak points. This manual approach is time-consuming but produces a level of detail that machines cannot replicate. We spend hours refining the facial expressions on our Buddha statues and polishing the intricate geometry of our granite fountains.
Unlike factory-made decor, our hand-carved stone art possesses unique character. Subtle variations in the stone’s veins are not flaws, but markers of natural origin. Before any piece is crated for shipping, we apply a professional-grade water-repellent coating. This ensures that whether you place your sculpture in a garden in the UK or a home temple in India, the stone remains resistant to weathering, stains, and the test of time. We pack every order in heavy-duty, fumigated wooden crates, ensuring your investment arrives safe and ready for installation.
Stonemart
We are a team of murtikars, not a factory. We treat every block of marble and granite like maa dharti ka sona (Mother Earth’s gold), carving it with patience and heart until it reveals its true form. When you order from us, you aren't just getting a product; you are getting a piece of our heritage.
