Behind the Scenes: The Art of Sculpture Making
Ever wondered how a raw block of clay becomes a permanent landmark? Watch the journey from our initial modeling to your finished piece.
Watch the initial clay modeling stage for the Surya Namaskar statue series. Our artists meticulously shape every muscle and fold by hand before the mold is made.
This video shows the journey of a yoga statue from a clay model to a finished, wrapped piece ready for delivery, including glimpses of the final golden paint application.
See how the large moon relief wall art was created on-site. Our team is shown texturing the surface by hand to form the craters before the final painting and lighting.
This video documents the making of the Buddha relief sculpture, from the initial clay carving to the detailed application of the dual-tone paint finish.
A look into the creation of a Lord Ganesha statue. The process starts with preparing the clay, sculpting the form, making the FRP mold, and finally painting the finished idol.
This video captures the finishing stages of the massive Fortis Hospital baby sculpture, where our artists are seen sanding and smoothing the large FRP sections before assembly.
The making of the giant Dalmatian dog sculpture. This video shows the sanding of the raw FRP form and the final painted piece in its park setting.
About this collection
Every project we take on, whether a life-size statue or a mural, begins with us mixing clay by foot to get the consistency just right. This is where your idea takes physical form. Before we ever touch a mold or fiberglass, we walk you through the raw clay model. You get to see the proportions and facial likeness in person or via video, and we make changes right then and there. It is the only way to ensure the final piece feels exactly like what you imagined.
The Making of a Masterpiece
We do not believe in rushed art. Our process is hands-on from start to finish, and we think it is important for you to know exactly how your investment is being built.
Step 1: The Clay Foundation
Everything starts with clay. We source specific quality clay, and our team manually kneads it to ensure there are no air pockets or inconsistencies. We hand-sculpt the details, focusing on anatomy and expression. For custom portraits or memorials, this is the most critical stage. We invite you to be part of this phase because a tweak in clay is easy, but a change in fiberglass is a nightmare.
Step 2: Mold Making and Casting
Once the clay model is approved, we create a specialized mold. We use high-quality silicone or plaster, depending on the complexity of the design. Then comes the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) casting. We use layers of fiberglass and resin to build a shell that is both lightweight and incredibly tough. This is how we ensure our work survives both Delhi summers and monsoon rains.
Step 3: Finishing and Installation
After the cast sets, we grind, sand, and smooth the surface. We do not just paint it; we treat the surface with automotive-grade PU paints to prevent fading. Whether you want a metallic bronze finish for an army memorial or a vibrant, realistic look for a garden statue, we handle the final layering in-house.
Why This Matters
Our studio in Sector 17, Gurugram is always open for clients to visit. We believe in total transparency. If you are commissioning a project, you should see the armature and the texture work before it is locked into fiberglass. That is the ArtHerwa difference.
ArtHerwa
We are a team of artists who live for the messy, hands-on process of sculpting. We treat every project like our own college crush—obsessively detailed and impossible to ignore.
