About Project Showcase: Nordic Nest
Achieving the Scandinavian look in a Mumbai apartment involves more than just a neutral palette. In the 'Nordic Nest' project, we balanced the need for light wood tones and white walls with high-performance Italian finishes that withstand our humid climate. We focused heavily on custom-built storage to tuck away daily clutter, ensuring the minimalist aesthetic stays practical for a busy family.
When our client, Prachi Kale, approached us for this project, her goal was simple but challenging: she wanted a home that felt like a vacation sanctuary. We leaned into Scandinavian design principles to create an 'oasis' that prioritized natural light, functionality, and a sense of calm.
Materiality and Durability
We selected high-performance Italian wood finishes, which were later highlighted in an Elle Decor India feature. These finishes are not just for aesthetics; they provide the durability needed for Mumbai homes while maintaining a soft, matte look that defines the Nordic style.
Designing for Function
Minimalism can quickly fall apart without proper organization. Throughout the living room and the study nook, we incorporated custom joinery to keep everyday items out of sight. From the TV unit to the bedroom wardrobes, every piece of furniture was designed to serve a dual purpose: looking elegant while solving storage problems.
A Collaborative Journey
Good design requires listening. We worked closely with Prachi to ensure the space felt personal. As she noted, we turned her vision into a 'cozy haven' by focusing on the details that matter—like the custom face sculptures in the dining area and the cloud-shaped light in the children's room—rather than following trends that wouldn't last.
