About Crafting for a Cause: Creating with Purpose
We don’t do fancy equipment or stiff classes here. When you join a crafting session at our BTM Layout hub, you’ll find yourself sitting on the floor with our team, cutting cardboard and painting characters to make tactile storybooks that help kids with visual impairments learn through touch. It’s messy, it’s fun, and you’ll leave knowing your afternoon of cutting and pasting actually landed in a special school classroom.
Making Impact, One Craft at a Time
At Karmasthan, we believe that volunteering should be accessible, social, and genuinely useful. Our 'Crafting for a Cause' sessions are about more than just art; they are about filling a gap in special education. We work with NGOs and schools to identify what teachers need—whether it’s a tactile storyboard for a lesson or eco-friendly decorations for a festival—and we build it right here in BTM Layout.
Why We Craft
Many of our materials serve as sensory learning tools for children with visual impairments or developmental disabilities. By creating these resources, we help provide an inclusive learning environment where every child feels engaged. You don't need to be a professional artist to jump in. We use recycled materials, cardboard, and plenty of paint. The focus is on the intent and the connection—yellara jothe (with everyone).
What to Expect
- Hands-On Participation: Expect to use scissors, glue, and markers. We sit in circles, share stories, and sometimes break into a 'Josh' cheer when we finish a project.
- Inclusive Environment: Our space is designed to be welcoming for people of all abilities. Whether you are a student, a working professional, or someone who uses a wheelchair, there is a role for you at our craft table.
- Sustainability: We prioritize eco-friendly supplies, turning waste into educational tools whenever possible.
Getting Involved
We host these sessions on weekends, making it easy to drop in if you have three hours to spare. If you are part of an organization looking for a team-building activity that actually gives back, these sessions are a fantastic way to bond while doing real-world good in Bengaluru.
Smileys
We started as a bunch of friends just wanting to give back, and now we’ve built Karmasthan to be a home for anyone who wants to make a difference. We’re here to break stereotypes and prove that inclusion isn't just a concept—it's something we build, one craft session at a time.
