Portraits and Visual Storytelling by Shreema Upadhyaya
I see photos as time machines. Whether it’s a moody monsoon morning in Bengaluru or a retro drive, I love working with photographers to build these visual worlds and tell stories without saying a word.
A portrait from a beautiful, misty morning in Bengaluru. I love the soft, magical quality of the light during the monsoon season.
Another shot from the same monsoon series. The mood is so serene and a little mysterious, which I find very inspiring.
This portrait captures a thoughtful moment during our monsoon shoot. The natural setting and soft light create such a beautiful atmosphere.
A close-up from the monsoon series. The goal was to convey a sense of quiet introspection and connection with nature.
Another portrait surrounded by lush greenery. There's something so calming about being in nature, and I think that feeling comes through in the photos.
A direct, straight-on portrait from the monsoon series. Even in the stillness, I try to convey an inner emotional landscape.
A wider shot from the monsoon series, showing the scale of the misty woods. It feels like a scene from a movie.
Another atmospheric shot from the monsoon series. I love how the fog creates a natural canvas for storytelling.
A slightly different angle from the same series, playing with the shapes and silhouettes of the trees in the background.
A short video from a photoshoot with a vintage car in Bengaluru. The whole vibe was very retro and nostalgic, like stepping into a different era.
About Portraits & Visual Stories
Every shoot here is about more than just the outfit; it’s about the narrative. When we work together, I bring my training in abhinaya (expression) to help find the specific emotional truth for your visuals, whether it’s the quiet introspection of a monsoon morning or the nostalgia of a vintage film set.
Beyond the Frame
Fashion and portrait photography are never just about standing still. For me, they are an extension of the storytelling I do on stage and screen. I don't just pose; I build a character.
-
The Narrative Approach: Whether we are shooting ethnic wear, editorial fashion, or casual street portraits, I start by asking what the story is. Are we capturing the stillness of Bengaluru’s monsoon or the charm of a bygone era? My acting background helps me hold those emotions, so the final images feel like a scene from a film rather than a static shot.
-
Movement & Expression: I use my dance foundation to ensure that even in portraiture, there is a sense of flow. It’s about how the hand moves with the saree, how the gaze connects with the lens, and how the posture tells the viewer something about who the subject is.
-
Collaborating with Creatives: I have a deep appreciation for the vision of photographers and brands. I’m always down to experiment, whether it’s a vintage car setup, a misty outdoor location, or a studio shoot. I come prepared with my own makeup basics and an open mind for creative direction.
-
Availability: I am based in Bengaluru but am open to travel for projects across India. If you have a mood board or a specific aesthetic in mind, let’s chat.
